Tönnies’ takeover of Vion slaughterhouses blocked in Germany

( June 12, 2025, 08:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The German competition authority said today it has forbidden meat processor Tönnies from acquiring assets from the Vion group. Tönnies had planned to acquire slaughterhouses in the southern towns of Buchloe, Crailsheim and Waldkraiburg, as well as other companies and stakes from Vion. The deal would have significantly boosted Tönnies’ market position, to the detriment of farmers and the remaining smaller rivals in the affected areas, the authority's head Andreas Mundt said. Apart from its already dominant position in pig slaughtering and processing, Tönnies would also have gained a leading position in the cattle sector, Mundt said.Statement follows (in German). ...
