New Zealand's Altano-Matamata Veterinary Services deal may limit consumer choice

( March 27, 2025, 02:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Altano International GmbH subsidiary Altano New Zealand’s acquisition of the specialist horse-veterinary practice Matamata Veterinary Services may limit consumer choice in the Waikato region, the New Zealand antitrust regulator said. In a statement of issues published today, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said the regulator is “currently not satisfied” that Altano New Zealand’s bid to acquire 100 percent of Matamata Veterinary Services will not lead to substantial lessening of competition in the relevant market. The statement said both companies provide veterinary services for horses, particularly in the Waikato region in New Zealand’s North Island. The regulator said that it is concerned that the customers seeking these services in the region will have limited choice outside of the merged entity and may face higher prices. The full statement by the New Zealand Commerce Commission follows; and the statement of issues is attached:...
