TP-Link privacy and security threats a problem, 21 states tell US FCC

( October 7, 2026, 21:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: TP-Link Systems products represent a privacy and security threat to US consumers due to the company's ties to China, a group of 21 states led by Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers told the US Federal Communications Commission. "TP-Link deceives consumers about the security of their data by burying in its privacy policies a broad ability to share consumer data, and TP-Link key individuals and facilities are subject to a 2017 Chinese law that requires providing access to Chinese intelligence agencies upon demand. TP-Link does not disclose this risk. Each of these presents a serious consumer-protection harm that must be remedied," the 21 predominantly Republican states told the FCC, which is reviewing TP-Link's bid for conditional approval to sell new router models in the US.See attached letter....
