( October 1, 2026, 08:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean government has named seven senior investigators for the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency on Thursday, a day before the new investigation agency launches. Jeon Jong-min, an attorney at law firm KnC, has been named deputy chief of the SCIA, while attorney Choi Jae-min has been named head of its Seoul regional office and lawyer Kim Hyung-geun head of its Suwon regional office, among others. The agency’s chief has yet to be finalized. The Ministry of Interior and Safety said that the seven officials will be formally appointed following the required appointment procedures. The government has proposed a 472.4 billion won ($346 million) budget for the SCIA for 2027 and submitted the proposal to the National Assembly. The SCIA will begin operations on Oct. 2 with a provisional workforce of 1,900, or about 66 percent of its authorized headcount of 2,874. The statement is attached (in Korean)....
