Online platforms face UK deadline to curb spread of illegal deepfakes

Ofcom said that by Sept. 30, services must either have “hash matching” technology in place to detect and prevent the sharing of such material, or prove they have equally effective safeguards. The regulator has opened an enforcement program to monitor compliance, and said companies that breach their legal duties could face fines of up to 10 percent of global annual revenue.Press release follows....
