Tech Council opposes amendments to Australia's under-16 social-media ban

In a statement on Wednesday, the Tech Council said that the parliament is expected to vote on an amendment to the 2026 Online Safety Amendment (Strengthening Enforcement for the Social Media Minimum Age) Bill later in the day. The top industry body said a proposed amendment would require operating-system providers to give a broadly defined class of third-party services access to sensitive system privileges, consumer device and app-use information, content controls and account-management functions, creating security risks.Statement follows....
