Japan's PPC seeks 10% budget increase to implement amended data-protection law

( August 31, 2026, 03:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s data-protection watchdog is seeking a 10.4 percent budget increase for the fiscal year starting next April to support implementation of the amended Act on the Protection of Personal Information. The Personal Information Protection Commission is requesting significant increases in funding for public relations and international coordination, along with 15 additional staff members. In its priority policies for the next fiscal year, the PPC said it plans to prepare for the introduction of administrative fines under the amended law, which is scheduled to take effect by July 2028.The statements are attached (in Japanese). ...
