Philippines' privacy watchdog warns over AI likenesses
( August 11, 2026, 08:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Philippines’ National Privacy Commission has warned that using real people’s faces and likenesses in artificial intelligence-generated images or videos constitutes personal-data processing subject to the Data Privacy Act. Creating or sharing synthetic media without a lawful basis may constitute unauthorized processing and trigger criminal, civil and administrative liability. The NPC said fabricated media depicting a person doing or saying something they never did or said constitutes false personal data, allowing individuals to seek its removal. Protections for satire, journalism and public-interest commentary depend on the circumstances, including whether the synthetic nature is disclosed.
