US judge allows Reddit anti-circumvention claims vs. Perplexity AI, SerpAPI

Englemeyer declined to dismiss Digital Millennium Copyright Act claims by Reddit against the artificial intelligence answer engineer Perplexity AI and web-scraping platform SerpAPI, finding that Reddit "epitomizes the 'global digital on-line marketplace for copyrighted works' that the DMCA sought to promote," and that its injuries are "within the zone of interests" of the law's anti-circumvention provisions. Englemeyer also found that Google's SearchGuard is a measure that controls access to online work, as required to sustain a DMCA 1201(a) claim.
