South Korea sees sharp rise in cyber-breach reports in first half of 2026

( July 30, 2026, 03:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said Thursday that a total of 1,236 cyber-breach incidents were reported to the Korea Internet & Security Agency in the first half of 2026. The figure represents a 19.5 percent increase from the same period in 2025 but an 8.4 percent decline from the second half of 2025, when reports reached a record high amid heightened corporate awareness of incident reporting following major breach incidents involving the three largest telecommunications companies. By incident type, distributed denial-of-service attacks and ransomware infections recorded the sharpest increases in the first half of 2026, the ministry said.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
