TikTok fined $7m in South Korea over targeted ad practices, data transfers
( July 23, 2026, 05:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: TikTok has been fined 10.3 billion won ($7 million) by South Korea's privacy regulator for unlawfully collecting and using third-party behavioral data for targeted advertising without obtaining valid user consent and for violating cross-border data transfer requirements. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Thursday that TikTok collected behavioral data from about 9.45 million active South Korean users without clearly informing them of the practice. The company also failed to provide legally required disclosures when transferring users' personal data to foreign affiliates in connection with TikTok Lite's cash-withdrawal service.
