Naver's 'AI Tab' clears South Korean adequacy review ahead of launch

( June 1, 2026, 03:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Naver received approval from South Korea’s privacy regulator for its planned artificial intelligence-powered search agent service, “AI Tab,” following a prior-adequacy review aimed at ensuring lawful use of personal data. The service will provide personalized search responses in a chatbot format by drawing on users’ search histories as well as activity records from public blog and cafe content, shopping history and other Naver service-use data. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Naver must provide clear opt-out controls, transparently disclose what personalized information is used and adopt additional safeguards against misuse or breaches. The regulator also required measures to prevent the inference or use of sensitive personal information and to ensure identifiers such as account numbers and credit-card information are not included in AI-generated responses.Statement is attached (in Korean). ...
