Capital One loses bid to scuttle US claims of data transmission to ad companies
By Mike Swift ( May 22, 2026, 21:41 GMT | Insight) -- A federal judge in San Francisco largely denied Capital One's motion to dismiss claims that it illegally shared user data with the likes of Google, Meta Platforms, Adobe and other digital ad companies, saying the plaintiffs' adequately argued that the alleged transmission was “highly offensive” and there are factual questions over the data being tied to individuals. US District Judge Trina Thompson did throw out the claims of one of the named plaintiffs, however, saying he failed to demonstrate an expectation of privacy when he re-applied for a credit card.Capital One continues to face a list of privacy claims over its alleged sharing of customer financial data with advertisers after a US judge ruled Friday that the transmission was “highly offensive” and that there are factual questions over the data being tied to individuals....
