Meta, Google must face US privacy claims over app-to-app communications, judge rules

( May 11, 2026, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms and Google failed to get full dismissal of California and US wiretapping claims over an alleged scheme in which Meta allegedly exploited Android communication channels used for making audio or video calls to collect Android users' browsing information without consent. US District Judge Rita F. Lin concluded that plaintiffs have plausibly alleged that users would not agree, and have not agreed, to permit the collection of data in a context where it would be combined with perfectly matched identifiers from their Facebook and Instagram apps, and Meta knowingly acted without permission. Additionally, Google failed at its duty to minimize the risk that inadequate data safeguards might allow bad actors to gain access to personal information. Lin did dismiss the California Invasion of Privacy Act pen register claim against Meta.See attached file. ...
