Meta, New Mexico start remedy trial phase with $3.7bn, platform changes at stake

In the second phase of the trial, Judge Bryan Biedscheid will decide whether Meta should pay $3.7 billion for mental health services and other remedies for the harm found in Phase 1 of the trial, as well as making significant platform design changes to Facebook and Instagram.Meta Platforms told a New Mexico judge Monday that the state’s $3.7 billion request for mental health and other services, to abate harm a jury found this year was caused by Instagram and Facebook, is “overbroad, dangerous, and in conflict with other laws.”...
