South Korean lawmakers protest reported US pressure over Coupang probe

( April 28, 2026, 02:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ninety South Korean lawmakers said Tuesday they will deliver a protest letter to the US ambassador, objecting to reported moves by some US lawmakers to seek protections for Coupang executives and link the issue to bilateral diplomatic and security cooperation. The lawmakers said ongoing investigations and administrative actions related to alleged violations by the company must be handled independently under Korean law, without external influence. They argued that attempts to affect law enforcement or judicial processes would breach South Korea’s judicial sovereignty and run counter to international norms. The group also warned that accepting such pressure could set a precedent for multinational companies to try to evade domestic legal procedures through diplomatic channels.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
