Data protection often overlooked in tech laws, German state watchdog says

( April 17, 2026, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Data protection is often overlooked when implementing laws over new tech, specifically AI, the data commissioner of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia said in the authority’s 2025 report. When training AI, some laws permit the use of government databases, which are “almost never up to date”, the commissioner said.
