Google broke promise to users targeted by US government, EFF says

( April 14, 2026, 20:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Electronic Frontier Foundation sent complaints to the attorneys general of California and New York urging them to investigate Google for deceptive trade practices related to the company's promise to give users prior notice before disclosing their information to law enforcement. EFF alleges that Google’s privacy terms promise users it will notify them before disclosing their personal data to law enforcement, but it has likely violated that promise many times over the years through a hidden and systematic practice. “Advance notice is especially important now, when agencies like ICE are unconstitutionally targeting users for First Amendment-protected activity. State attorneys general should investigate Google for this deception,” EFF said in a statement.Statement follows in full. Also see attached file....
