Australia shows UK social-media ban would be a big gamble, campaigners warn

( April 12, 2026, 23:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: More than 60 percent of Australian children continue to use social media despite a ban on under-16s coming into force last December, according to polling by UK campaign group the Molly Rose Foundation. The suicide prevention organization said platforms have largely failed to remove underage accounts in Australia, and warned that a similar ban in the UK would be a “high-stakes gamble,” risking a false sense of safety. The survey of 1,050 children aged 12 to 15 found that 61 percent retained access, with most reporting no platform action to remove their accounts.Statement follows....
