China's internet regulator vows stronger legislation, enforcement

( April 9, 2026, 01:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s top cyberspace regulator pledged to advance key internet legislation, expand foreign-related rule-of-law efforts and improve the legal framework at a national conference on this year’s work plans Wednesday. Officials said efforts will also focus on improving enforcement, including tougher oversight in priority sectors and bolstering the capacity and consistency of online law enforcement. In addition, authorities called for improving judicial governance rules, strengthening protections for online rights and imposing tougher penalties for cybercrime. The regulator added it will tighten supervision over the exercise of power, standardize administrative reviews and litigation and accelerate the development of a law-based government in the cyberspace sector.Statement follows (in Chinese). ...
