Hong Kong advances autonomous-vehicle rollout with six pilot projects

( March 19, 2026, 03:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong has issued six pilot licenses covering 62 autonomous vehicles operating in locations including North Lantau, West Kowloon and Kai Tak, as the government accelerates commercial deployment of self-driving technology. The North Lantau testing project has achieved key milestones including multi-vehicle operations, passenger trials and higher speeds since launching in late 2024, the Transport Department said in a written response to the Legislative Council on Wednesday. The transport commissioner has established a dedicated promotion group with government departments and industry to guide testing locations, vehicle types and licensing arrangements for commercial rollout, the department added.Statement follows....
