California privacy regulator hits Georgia high school ticket platform with $1.1m fine

By Mike Swift ( March 3, 2026, 17:03 GMT | Insight) -- The California Privacy Protection Agency has handed out the second-largest fine it its history, as part of a $1.1 million settlement with Georgia-based PlayOn Sports, a digital ticketing platform for high school sports and other high school events such as proms and theater. CalPrivacy says PlayOn violated the California Consumer Privacy Act by using tracking technologies to collect personal students’ personal data, without the chance to opt out, and then delivered targeted advertisements to ticketholders and others using its services.As California Privacy Protection Agency fines continue to grow, the privacy watchdog has reached a settlement with PlayOn Sports that includes a $1.1 million fine to the Georgia-based digital ticket platform for high school sports and events such as proms and theater....
