TikTok age checks for teenagers are insufficient, Berlin Court says

( January 26, 2026, 10:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: TikTok’s age-verification methods for people aged 13-15, based only on a self-declared birth date, were inadequate and made it easy for minors to bypass safeguards, Berlin's Regional Court said on Dec. 23. The court banned TikTok from unlawfully using minors' data for personalized advertising without parental consent, partially siding with the Federation of German consumer associations, which had sued TikTok. However, the federation’s action against certain clauses in TikTok’s privacy policy was rejected. The body said on Monday it had appealed this rejection.
