Indonesia seeks explanation from Meta over alleged user data leak

( January 16, 2026, 08:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said on Friday that it had requested an official explanation from Meta Platforms about an alleged user data leak during the password reset process at its photo and video-sharing app Instagram. Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the digital ministry Alexander Sabar said the ministry and Meta met on Wednesday to clarify the matter. He said Meta had explained that the password reset process is an internal mechanism that runs through Instagram's official system and does not provide password access to third parties. Sabar said Instagram was conducting an investigation to confirm the validity of the alleged data leak....
