Calif. judge draws evidentiary lines ahead of bellwether social-media trial

Kuhl allowed testimony about peer bullying, minors’ access to social media, internal platform usage data, and causation opinions formed by treating physicians during mental-health treatment. She barred graphic sexual details and explicit rumors involving one minor plaintiff, ordering the parties to use generalized descriptions that convey the bullying the plaintiff allegedly experienced without inflaming or confusing jurors. Kuhl also excluded evidence about another minor plaintiff’s father’s personal use of social media, finding it minimally probative and substantially outweighed by the risk of unfair prejudice.See attached orders....
