US FCC opposes rehearing in case against T-Mobile over fines for sale of location data

( January 6, 2026, 20:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Federal Communications Commission opposed T-Mobile and Sprints’ request for an appellate rehearing in a case over fines totaling $200 million for the sale of consumers’ location data, saying the panel decision does not conflict with DC Circuit or Supreme Court precedent. The agency also argued that the constitutional question at issue is currently before the Supreme Court in a pair of petitions for writs of certiorari involving two other wireless carriers, and if either petition is granted, the resulting review would render a rehearing unnecessary.
