AI chatbots drive record data protection complaints, German watchdog says

( January 5, 2026, 13:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Berlin data protection authority has seen a new record in data protection submissions in 2025, it said Monday. The rise is linked to the use of AI chatbots, which make the authority more visible and help complainants formulate their submissions, but can also lead to false expectations and incorrect or incomplete assessments, the DPA said. Most of the increase was due to complaints related to the banking and finance sector.Statement (in German) attached....
