Coupang says data retained from only 3,000 South Korea accounts, later deleted

( December 26, 2025, 01:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Coupang said it has identified the perpetrator behind the recent user data breach and confirmed that all devices used in the incident have been retrieved and secured. The e-commerce giant operating in South Korea said its investigation so far shows the perpetrator accessed basic data linked to about 33 million customer accounts, but retained limited information from only around 3,000 accounts before later deleting all stored data. Coupang said the retained data included some 2,600 building entrance codes, but excluded payment information, log-in data and individual customs numbers, and added that it has found no evidence the data was transmitted externally or otherwise further leaked. Coupang said it has been handing over the recovered devices and hard drives to government officials starting Dec. 17 as soon as they were obtained, and that it will provide further updates and separately announce customer compensation plans.The company statement follows: ...
