South Korea regulator creates privacy-incident prevention unit, expands investigator ranks

( December 23, 2025, 04:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy regulator said Tuesday it will set up a dedicated privacy-incident prevention function by creating a new senior director post and a seven-member pre-inspection division to identify risks early and conduct preventive checks, under a reorganization approved at a Cabinet meeting and set to take effect immediately after promulgation. The Personal Information Protection Commission said it will also secure an additional seven staff to strengthen breach-response capacity, including six investigators and one person to handle rising dispute-mediation demand, citing larger and more complex cases and investigative staffing that has stayed around 31 for four years. Separately, it will create a digital-communication team by adding two staff to reinforce online public outreach and provide faster, more accurate information during major incidents.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
