2K Games, BIFC fined a combined 300 million won in South Korea for privacy breaches

( December 11, 2025, 04:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US game company 2K Games and the Busan International Financial Promotion Center, or BIFC, have been fined a combined 300 million won ($203,000) by South Korea’s privacy regulator for data breaches and insufficient safeguard measures. The Personal Information Protection Commission imposed a 217.1 million won fine on 2K Games over a 2022 breach of its helpdesk system that exposed the personal data of 12,906 South Korean users as part of a wider global incident affecting about 4 million users. The agency also fined the BIFC 99 million won for a 2024 ransomware attack that compromised its internal work-management system containing the personal data of 177 employees. The PIPC found that the system was left vulnerable due to inadequate firewall protection, outdated Windows security patches and the storage of resident registration numbers without encryption.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
