Reddit to suspend under-16 accounts in Australia to comply with social media ban

( December 9, 2025, 00:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Reddit will suspend accounts of under 16 users in Australia and will ask for birthdates of new users to comply with Australia's social media ban from Wednesday, the company said. In a post published on Tuesday, Reddit said all Australian account holders will be subject to an age prediction model. The social media platform said it will do this through a “new privacy-preserving model” designed to help Reddit protect young users from both holding accounts and accessing adult content before they’re old enough. In a statement to MLex on Tuesday, Reddit also criticized the new Social Media Minimum Age rules, saying it has “deep concerns” with the law.Statement and post from Reddit follow:...
