US state AGs push back on Meta arguments for 'addictive design' summary judgment

( December 2, 2025, 02:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A bipartisan group of more than two dozen US state attorneys general suing Meta Platforms on allegations that Facebook and Instagram were knowingly designed to be additive to young users filed a letter to a federal judge in California disputing some of Meta's summary judgment arguments, saying Meta's conduct was deceptive and unfair. "Meta published and promoted one type of metric about the prevalence of harmful experiences while suppressing an internal survey presenting a conflicting view," the AGs said in the court filing. "To understand Meta’s deceptive scheme, and its materiality, Meta’s misleading statements must be viewed in context, alongside information it omitted, as this Court recognized. The AG’s deception claims do not impose a duty to disclose or compel speech; rather, they seek to hold Meta liable for its misleading — and thus unprotected — commercial speech."See attached document....
