Illuminate Education to pay $5.1 million in Conn., NY, Calif. data-privacy settlement

( November 6, 2025, 19:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Illuminate Education has agreed to pay $5.1 million to resolve claims by the attorneys general of Connecticut, New York and California over Illuminate’s alleged failure to properly safeguard the personal information of about 5 million students in the three states, resulting in a data security incident discovered in January 2022, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said in a regulatory filing. The settlement marks the first under Connecticut's Student Data Privacy Law, and was the result of Illuminate failing "to implement basic security measures to protect students’ data, including failing to monitor for suspicious activity on their platforms," Tong said.Text of AG statement follows in full.
