South Korea interim findings on KT breach cite systemic control gaps, obstruction referral

( November 6, 2025, 05:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea released interim findings from a joint government-industry probe into KT's security breach involving illegal femtocells that infiltrated the telecom giant's internal network. According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, investigators found that KT's femtocell management was severely flawed: devices used identical certificates with 10-year validity periods, abnormal IP addresses were not blocked and encryption between devices and the core network could be disabled, allowing attackers to intercept ARS or SMS authentication data in plaintext. Additionally, KT failed to report the discovery of 43 servers infected with BPFDoor malware between March and July 2024, delayed reporting the femtocell incident and, regarding allegations of KT certificate theft by nation-state actors, misled authorities about server disposal timelines, leading to criminal referral for obstruction.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
