Malicious attacks caused 308 data breaches in Australia in first-half 2025, report says

( November 4, 2025, 00:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Out of the 532 data breaches notified to the Australian privacy regulator between January and June 2025, about 308, or 59 percent, were caused by malicious or criminal attacks, a new report has revealed. In a statement on Tuesday, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said that the regulator was notified of 532 data breaches during the period, which is a 10 percent decrease compared with the 594 incidents reported between July and December 2024. The statement also said that the regulator has launched a new interactive Notifiable Data Breaches statistics dashboard. In a blog published on Tuesday, Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind said that the health sector had the most reported data breaches in the six months.
