Microsoft handed Austrian GDPR decision on student tracking, Noyb says

( October 10, 2025, 08:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Microsoft has been found in breach of EU data protection law by Austria’s data watchdog, according to campaign group Noyb, saying its Microsoft 365 Education suite unlawfully tracked students and failed to answer a General Data Protection Regulation access request. Noyb reports that the Austrian Data Protection Authority said Microsoft wrongly shifted compliance obligations onto schools and public authorities that lacked control over the data, ordering the company to clarify how it uses student information for its own “business purposes.”Press release follows.
