Japan plans to amend privacy guidelines to align with global data-transfer rules

( October 9, 2025, 02:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission plans to amend its guidelines in response to the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules. The framework, which originated in the Asia-Pacific region as the CBPR, was expanded globally in 2022 and began operating in June. At its meeting on Wednesday, the commission agreed to revise guidelines on overseas personal-data transfers and on authorized self-regulatory organizations for personal-data protection.
