Australian, New Zealand regulators call for access to information to drive innovation

A statement published by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner on Friday said that the Association of Information Access Commissioners held a bi-annual meeting in Sydney this week and called on public sector leaders to “champion access to information as a driver of innovation.” The statement said that this could be achieved by recognizing the “value of government-held information and data as a resource to support innovation among governments, private sector actors and civil society.” The Association of Information Access Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand is made up of the Australian Information Commissioner, the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner and the information commissioners or Ombudsmen from each of the Australian states and territories.The full statement follows:...
