Privacy-enhancing technologies cut risks but are no silver bullet, UK watchdog says

John Edwards urged companies to prioritize data minimization and warned that today’s anonymization through PETs may not hold tomorrow. Denise Wong, who leads the Singaporean privacy authority, said PETs remain prohibitively expensive for many smaller firms.Privacy-enhancing technologies, or PETs, can be seen as a mitigating factor in penalty decisions by the UK data protection regulator, but they are not a full solution and could be undermined by future computing advances, the watchdog’s chief has said....
