Vietnam confirms data breach at national credit information center

( September 12, 2025, 08:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vietnam’s Cyber Emergency Response Center, or VNCERT, on Thursday confirmed a cybersecurity breach at the National Credit Information Center, a data hub under the State Bank of Vietnam. The center said it was notified of the incident on Wednesday and is working with major cybersecurity firms to investigate. Initial assessments indicate signs of cyberattacks and intrusions aimed at stealing personal data. The volume of compromised data has not been confirmed, though a screenshot circulating on social media shows an advertisement dated Sept. 8, 2025, from an account named ShinyHunters offering a database of over 160 million records from the “Credit Institute of Vietnam” for $175,000. The listing claims the trove includes highly sensitive information such as personally identifiable details, military, government and tax IDs, credit payments, and income statements. The full statement from VNCERT, in Vietnamese, follows:...
