KFC, InterContinental apps among 70 flagged for data-privacy violations in China

( August 15, 2025, 03:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apps run by KFC, InterContinental Hotels Group and Chinese tech firm iFlytek, along with those from app stores operated by video-sharing platform Douyin and automaker Changan Qiyuan, are among 70 flagged by China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, the technical arm of the country's Internet regulator, for alleged violations of personal data rules. The apps are accused of illegally collecting and using personal information, including by failing to provide clear privacy disclosures and to obtain separate consent when sharing data with third-party processors. Other alleged issues include the lack of a mechanism to handle data rights requests, excessive data collection, insufficient security safeguards and intrusive marketing practices.
