Micron exits global mobile NAND market, triggers fresh layoffs in China

( August 13, 2025, 03:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US chipmaker Micron is pulling out of the global mobile NAND-memory market amid challenging financial performance and decelerating growth, a spokesperson said in a written statement to MLex. The company will instead focus on strengthening its position in other NAND memory areas — including solid-state drives and automotive applications — and on its mobile dynamic random access memory, or DRAM, lineup. Mobile NAND refers to flash memory used in devices such as smartphones and tablets for general storage and transfer of data. The exit has affected related mainland operations covering R&D, testing and support, prompting fresh layoffs in China, including at its Shanghai office.
