Thai privacy regulator investigates iris-scanning platforms

( July 24, 2025, 05:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Committee has launched a joint investigation with public and private stakeholders into platforms offering digital assets in exchange for iris scans. This initiative follows public concerns over unclear consent and data risks. The PDPC, along with agencies including the Electronic Transactions Development Agency; the Securities and Exchange Commission; the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau; the Department of Special Investigation; and National Telecom are examining compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act. The PDPC will assess whether companies properly inform users and obtain explicit consent, with enforcement action to follow if violations are found.
