German government press office can continue using Facebook Fan Page, court rules

( July 22, 2025, 12:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The German government's press office can continue using Meta’s Facebook Fan Page, the Cologne Administrative Court ruled, according to a press release today. The court sided with the federal government and Meta in their challenge to a 2023 order from the Federal Data Protection Commissioner, which had sought to ban the use of a Facebook Fan Page over alleged GDPR data protection and privacy violations. The court concluded that Meta alone is responsible for obtaining user consent for cookie use, and that the government doesn't share responsibility for the data processing. The decision can be appealed to the Higher Administrative Court in Münster.Statement in German follows....
