New data retention law must allow national flexibility, four EU states say

In a document dated June 18, the four states backed a harmonized approach under the upcoming ePrivacy Regulation, but said the EU's highest court's “targeted retention” model is at odds with public security needs.Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain and Latvia were urging the European Commission last month to give member states more discretion in shaping data retention rules, warning that the Court of Justice of the EU’s current “targeted retention” model is impractical and undermines public security....
