Online abuse of women in UK politics getting worse, regulator says

( July 14, 2025, 09:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online hate and abuse of women working in UK politics is constant and impacts how they go about their daily lives, do their jobs and express themselves online, a new report by regulator Ofcom said today. The research involving 23 politicians will inform Ofcom’s upcoming guidance under the Online Safety Act on addressing online harms affecting women and girls. The report said the online abuse against the women in UK politics often had an underlying misogynistic tone to it, including rape and death threats; came from a variety of people; was often triggered by standard parts of their job role; was difficult to control with blocking or muting; and was getting worse and becoming more sophisticated, Ofcom said. Statement follows. Report attached....
