South Korea's new privacy manual details data use without consent under amended law

( July 14, 2025, 03:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy regulator has released a comprehensive new guidance manual that consolidates various privacy compliance requirements under the country’s revised 2023 Personal Information Protection Act. According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, the manual, aimed at businesses and institutions, clarifies key legal interpretations through real-world examples, such as when consent is not required for service-related data use or how personal data can be handled in emergencies. It also provides new criteria for lawful data processing and deletion obligations following business closure or service termination.
