Deepfake detection needs mix of measures, platforms told in UK watchdog report

( July 11, 2025, 11:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms have fresh insights on identifying deepfakes as UK regulator Ofcom published a discussion paper examining tools such as watermarking, provenance metadata, AI labels and context annotations today. The research found that no single tool is sufficient and called for combined approaches and better standardization. It also cautioned against placing the burden of detection on users. While the paper doesn’t constitute formal guidance, and the use of these tools is not required under the Online Safety Act, Ofcom said the new findings could inform future policy.Statement follows.
