South Korea fines Black Yak, Topik Korea over user-data leaks

( July 10, 2025, 07:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Outdoor brand Black Yak and online-learning provider Topik Korea have been fined a combined 1.42 billion won (about $1 million) by South Korea’s privacy regulator for failing to implement adequate security safeguards, resulting in major data breaches. According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, hackers exploited SQL-injection vulnerabilities in both companies’ websites. At Black Yak, the attackers stole administrator credentials and accessed the personal data of 342,000 users, leading to a fine of 1.39 billion won. Topik Korea was found to have exposed data from over 84,000 users and received about 25.7 million won in fines and penalties for weak access controls, failure to maintain system logs and delayed user notification.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
