UK platforms to face stronger child-safety, content-moderation duties

( June 30, 2025, 09:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms active in the UK could face new rules to restrict livestream interactions with children and sanction repeat offenders — and could use proactive technologies to detect grooming, fraud and illegal suicide content — under additional measures proposed by Ofcom today. The watchdog is also consulting on new guidelines for algorithms to curb viral illegal content and on increased use of age verification. The proposals would amend earlier Ofcom codes on illegal harms and child protection as part of the Online Safety Act’s implementation.
